Harvest Celebration – Planning Meeting 3/4.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 4.  We will be meeting at the Olive Branch in downtown Waco at 4pm to plan the Harvest Celebration.  All who are interested in helping to organize – which we need as many hands and hearts and heads as possible – are welcome to attend.  Here’s a brief synopsis for the event:

In coordination with schools with garden clubs, UGC invites the community and students to gather for lunch at the end of the school year.  Vegetables planted on MLK Day and throughout the school year will be harvested and shared, allowing gardeners – young and old alike – to reflect on the progress of the garden.  Students who have participated in garden clubs across the city will be recognized, and one high school student will be honored with the Urban Gardening Scholarship.  UGC will also be partnering with the McLennan County Hunger Coalition to promote the Summer Lunch Program.

The event is set for June 3 – WISD’s last day of school.  For more information, please contact Katherine Moncrief at educationcoordinator@worldhungerrelief.org.  Or Bethel Erickson at vista@worldhungerrelief.org.
