March 12, 2011 (Saturday): 10am-12pm. At the World Hunger Relief Farm – 356 Spring Lake Road.
Join us for our next Beyond the Backyard Garden Workshop: Garden Bed Preparation. We’ll discuss various methods (and the theories behind those methods) for prepping your garden beds. Aaron Basescu (former CSA/Produce intern at the World Hunger Relief) and Bethel Erickson (HOT Urban Gardening Coalition) will lead a discussion on no-till methods promoted by Masanobu Fukuoka and Ruth Stout – as well as double-dig methods, and rototiller preparation. After the discussion, we will move out to the garden to prep some beds using the methods discussed (including learning how to use a rototiller) and planting some crops for Bethel’s Wedding Garden Patch!
Donations are encourage ($5-10) – to support this and other programs facilitated by the Urban Gardening Coalition. Participants are also encouraged to bring a seasonal dish to share for a potluck and continued discussion following the workshop.
